Lewis removed from ISU football team

Iowa State fullback Robert Lewis Jr. has beem removed from the ISU football team by head coach Dan McCarney.

Tom Kroeshell, assistant athletic director for Media Relations, confirmed Monday that Lewis is “off the team.” He had no further comment.

Lewis was arrested in late June on a warrant for simple domestic assault.

The warrant was issued after an April 2 incident in which police said Lewis threw a drink in a bartender’s face and threatened him.

A trial date for Lewis has been set for July 17 at the Story County Associate District Court.

Lewis, senior in animal science, was a walk-on to the ISU football team from LaMarque, Texas.
