If you want change, get involved

Hopefully, people are watching the Wisconsin court case and the implications for those involved. I think that Wisconsin should succumb to students’ rights. Personally, it is MY choice what I support and what I don’t.

Arguments made for the university are that some groups would be funded proportionally more than others. Those, for example, are gay groups, KKK groups, socialist clubs, international clubs and so forth.

If students in Madison get their way, it will be a detriment to minority groups. These groups provide forums for discussion; no one is doubting that. The coverage in the Daily is a prime example.

What the Daily has done is to promote what they best feel is newsworthy, and I applaud the stance Sara Ziegler took the other day. It’s admirable; she was a soldier not willing to bend to ISU’s conservative views.

As a somewhat conservative student, I feel I should promote gay groups just because they go against the grain, light a fire under my ass and get me more involved.

The Daily does cover a lot of liberal views. But how many of us “conservatives” go and try to get a column at the Daily?

I’m gathering by the lack of columns, not too many of us. How about starting our own newspaper? We’ll use the fees we don’t want to pay to other groups to support our own agenda.

If you want to effect change, get involved. I feel passionate about many issues, but until I step to the plate, I’m never gonna get to hit.
