A comic book site from another planet

Comic books fans who wanted to “have it all” may be able to get their wish — on a Web site.

NextPlanetOver.com offers everything from comic books to apparel, as well as celebrity interviews, a Stan Lee store and customer reviews for those who don’t know where to begin.

“I can buy my favorite comic books as well as chat with their artists and writers in the Community Area, read the latest news and gossip in The Pulse, or read the first few pages in the Reading Room,” said Dave Scott, CEO of NPO.com and co-founder. “If you are looking for the most complete selection and the best information on the genre, then you’ve got to check us out.”

Scott said his inspiration for starting NPO.com was “frustration.”

“I was never near a comic book store I really liked,” Scott said. “In every city, the comic book store was too small, too unfriendly or non-existent.

“Now that NPO.com exists, everyone can have access to a comic book store that excels in breadth and depth of selection, quality of customer service and is open 24 hours a day.”

In coming months, NPO.com will be opening a store just for Stan Lee Fans.

“It will offer all of Stan Lee’s new stuff, as well as his classics, like Hulk, X-Men and even Spider-Man,” Scott said.

The Reading Room is just one of many programs surfers can find at NPO.com.

“This is where a new user can browse through the first couple of pages of a comic book they may be interested in before they buy it,” Scott said.

Some of the celebrities on the site include “Grant Morrison, writer of “The Invisibles” and “JLA.” David Mack, creator of the critically acclaimed “Kabuki” and the new writer of “Daredevil,” recently joined the list, as well.

Other current participants include “WildC.A.T.s” and “Darkness” writer Scott Lobdell, “Batman” and “Whiteout” writer Greg Rucka, “Giantkiller” creator Dan Brereton and “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Bacchus” creator Eddie Campbell.

And Scott said the site will continue to expand.

“You will see new storefronts dedicated to Anime and Manga like ‘Pokemon’ and ‘Ghost in the Shell,’ books, video games, customizable card games like ‘Magic the Gathering,’ as well as TV and movie merchandise,” Scott said.

“NPO.com is as comprehensive as you get.”
