West Virginia extends win streak versus Iowa State to three straight

On the road against West Virginia, No. 18 Iowa State fell 73-64 Wednesday night.

During the game, Iowa State had a cold shooting night with only 33.3 percent of their shots from the floor and 24 percent of their three point tries falling.

In contrast, West Virginia connected on 44 percent of their shots from the floor.

At the half, the game was still within reach for the Cyclones, who only trailed 31-30.

Iowa State had four Cyclones in double digits, with Bridget Carleton leading all scorers with 26 points. Carleton also had 10 rebounds, four assists, five steals and five turnovers. 

Madi Wise had 13 points and six rebounds, Alexa Middleton had 10 points and four assists and Kristin Scott had 10 points and six rebounds before fouling out of the game with 50 seconds left.

Only two other Cyclones had any other points, including starter Ashley Joens, who finished with three points off of 1-7 shooting. Like Scott, Joens also fouled out of the game.

With the loss, Iowa State is now 3-2 in the Big 12 and 13-4 overall. It is the second straight Big 12 game Iowa State has lost.

In addition, West Virginia extends their win streak over the Cyclones to three straight after sweeping the Cyclones last season in Big 12 play.

On the horizon for Iowa State is a home game on Saturday at noon against Big 12 bottom dwellers, Oklahoma.
