Relaxing with wine, dance

One, two, cha-cha-cha.

Sound like the answer to a test question? Probably not in most classes. But in ballroom dancing? Could be.

And that’s just for starters. Ballroom dancing is one of the many “fun” classes students have chosen as diversions this semester.

Students can get in touch with their creative sides by working with jewelry and decorative metals in Art and Craft Design 227, or discover their culinary talents in a wine-tasting class offered by the food science department.

Tim Bartleman, a senior in philosophy, is learning to dance.

“I have a blast. I took it because I thought it would be fun.

” It’s probably my favorite class,” he said.

Bartleman said he also took the class to polish up his moves. “It never hurts to be a little smoother,” he said.

Although he’s never taken a ballroom dance class before, Bartleman said he has already learned how to do the magic step, the box waltz, and he is currently trying to master the fox trot.

Elsewhere, many ISU students are satisfied getting their wine at the local restaurants, but other students want a little more culture.

Beth Fiddick, a senior in food science and technology, said she gets to taste wines from nearly all European cultures in Food Science and Human Nutrition 416.

“It’s a really laid-back class. We get to cook many things, which is different for people who are in a food science major,” Fiddick said.

“We also learn how to order wine in restaurants and other appropriate etiquette about ordering wine.”
