Cyclones end Maui trip with rout over San Diego State

A hot start led to a satisfying finish for Iowa State in its Maui Invitational finale, as the Cyclones used a first-half barrage of 3-pointers to kickstart a 87-57 win over San Diego State.

The Cyclones jumped out to an 18-6 lead within four minutes on the back of three early 3-pointers. the Cyclones hit nine of their 19 attempts from deep in the first 20 minutes, building a 46-32 lead in the process. 

Iowa State was also sharing the ball well, assisting on 10 of its 14 made field goals. Marial Shayok led the team with 11 points at the break.

Another fast start to the second half put the Cyclones up 61-40 at the under-12 timeout. Iowa State got out in transition all game, scoring more than one third of their points in the fast break. 

Iowa State finished with three players in double figures, with Shayok leading the team with 21 points, Jacobson scoring 19 and Terrence Lewis adding 16. Redshirt freshman walk-on Eric Steyer got in the game and hit a 3-pointer for his first career basket, as well. 

The Cyclones pushed their lead to as much as 33 points, and they move to 5-1 on the season and end the Maui Invitational with a 2-1 record.
