It was a Big Eight rematch with the Missouri Tigers in Hilton Coliseum on Friday night (albeit without any sight of the Telephone Trophy). The Cyclones came through on top, winning 76-59 without four of their regular rotation players.

The start to the game was slow, as both teams missed shots and the Tigers struggled with turnovers, coughing it up four times in the first four minutes of action. The Tigers led 12-10 at the under-12 timeout. Senior wing Marial Shayok got into foul trouble, picking up three in the first 10 minutes of action, setting back an already thin Cyclones team.

After 20 minutes, the Cyclones led Missouri 34-25 on the back of an 18-5 extended run in the final six minutes of the half. Leading the Cyclones were guards Nick Weiler-Babb and Tyrese Haliburton with eight points each.

The Cyclones stretched the lead to 15 early in the second half as Talen Horton-Tucker and Marial Shayok made 3-pointers and had big defensive plays, and with eight minutes to play Iowa State led 64-46.

Five players scored at least eight points for Iowa State, and Shayok led the team with 20 points on 5-for-12 shooting. Jacobson had 15 points and six rebounds.

Missouri had 25 turnovers compared to just seven for the Cyclones.

Iowa State’s next game is on Monday against Texas Southern at Hilton Coliseum. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
