The Big 12 announced on Wednesday it had added another inter-conference challenge in the form of a men’s basketball-centric series with the Big East.

“We will be coordinating on sites, opponents and telecasts, but it ought to be a very good thing,” Bowlsby said.

Set to begin in the 2019-2020 season, the initial contract called for a four-year agreement, with each conference hosting five games and going on the road for five games. The move was partly made due to larger conferences — like the Big Ten — moving to a 20-game conference schedule, limiting the opportunities for teams to schedule high-level non-conference games.

Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby said the games would take place somewhere in late November and early December.

“It ought to be a very good thing for both leagues,” Bowlsby said.

The conference will now have two inter-conference series including the Big 12-SEC Challenge, which continues with an Iowa State trip to Ole Miss on Jan. 26.
