The Ames Fire Department responded to a structure fire at In Spyrit Metaphysical on Monday.

No injuries occurred when a fire started at 114 Kellogg Ave, In Spyrit Metaphysical, and affected adjacent businesses Monday evening, according to a news release.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

The fire started in the garage portion of the business around 6:30 p.m. and entered through the doorway in the back of the business, Deputy Fire Chief Tom Hackett said.

The business owners, who were present during the incident, reported the fire.

“We were able to get to the fire extremely quickly and extinguish it from there,” Hackett said.

Three cats that were inside the building were all able to make it out safely.

“We look for [an] extension of the fire, just to make sure that there’s no fire that got into the attic spaces or in-between the walls,” Hackett said.

The fire department also ventilated the nearby businesses that had been affected by the smoke.
