Milaysia Ochoa rounds the bases after a 3 run home run against Iowa on Apr. 26, 2023.

Iowa State softball will host its final game Wednesday as the Cyclones take on the Drake Bulldogs for one final time this season.

The 21-28 Cyclones are coming off their first Big 12 series win of the season as they took down No. 18 Baylor twice in their three-game series this past weekend.

The Cyclones seemed to have found their groove late in the season as they won eight out of their last 11 games.

The Cyclones will look to get one back from Drake and get one final home win in front of a potentially big crowd at the Cyclones Sports Complex.

The Bulldogs took the previous two matchups against the Cyclones as they both participated in the Doc Halverson UNI Dome Classic earlier this season.

Drake currently sits at 16-30 on the season as they are coming off two wins in a three-game series against Belmont over the weekend.

Junior Camille Marin hit her first career home run Sunday against No. 18 Baylor as the Cyclones now look to carry the energy they brought after their huge series win against the Bears to their final home game against Drake.

“I think we just need to find a way to carry this energy and come out with the same energy we brought today,” Marin said after Iowa State’s Big 12 series win.

Senior Carli Spelhaug had a nice weekend for herself as she made plays both at the plate and in the field to help Iowa State take their first Big 12 series at home. She now looks forward to finishing Iowa State’s last game at home with a win over Drake.

“We’re definitely out for Drake,” Spelhaug said. “They beat us twice already, and we’re hungry to get this win and for us to send out our seniors with their last home game victory.”

Iowa State head coach Jamie Pinkerton expects Drake to come to Ames to take yet another game from the Cyclones, but he expects his team to take down the Bulldogs Wednesday night.

“Drake always plays us tough,” Pinkerton said. “They’re well coached, and we expect them to come here and play hard against us, so we’ll need to be ready, and I feel good about us right now.”

Iowa State takes on Drake at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Cyclones Sports Complex as the Cyclones look to end off their home season with a win.
