Daily reporter and StuGov justice arrested, accused of sexual assault

Joshua Duarte, a reporter for the Iowa State Daily and associate supreme court justice for Student Government, has been arrested and charged with third degree sexual abuse – sexual assault with an object, which is a Class C felony, from an alleged assault that reportedly took place Nov. 4.

The arrest was made Friday, as the 21-year-old was booked by the Story County Sheriff’s Office. Duarte is a senior in political science at Iowa State.

Duarte was suspended indefinitely from the Daily and resigned from Student Government.

Duarte’s bond was set at $10,000 and was posted. A preliminary hearing was waived during a Wednesday court appearance.

Sexual assault complaints can be filed with the Title IX Coordinator at 3410 Beardshear Hall or 515-294-7612. Green Dot Bystander Intervention Training can be requested through Student Wellness.
