The International Student Council (ISC) is hosting the International Culture Fair from 5-9 p.m. Sunday. International cuisine, performances and a fashion show will be part of the event.
Previously two separate events, the World Cuisine Night and International Night, the International Culture Fair was described as “the best of both worlds” by ISC President Andrew Hokanson, a senior in agronomy.
“At this event, people will be able to sample food from around the world and enjoy performances of cultural dances and singing, as well as an international fashion show,” Hokanson said.
Natalee Thompson, a senior studying biological pre-medical illustration, and Ronnit Nandu, a sophomore in chemical engineering, work as co-directors of the International Culture Fair for ISC.
According to Thompson, four different student organizations are running food booths. The Pakistan Student Association, Ames Student Association for Malaysians and the Bangladesh Student Association will be serving their native cuisine. Members of ISC will be cooking dishes that represent both Italy and Brazil.
As for performances, Thompson said Mexico, Honduras and India are a few countries that will be represented.
“What we’re doing is we are trying to represent as many cultures as we can, urging them to participate in showcasing their culture,” Nandu said.
According to Hokanson, the culture fair fashion show will consist of around 15 walks, presenting a display of around 25 different national costumes.
“I am looking forward to it—talking to people, running from the kitchen to the Great Hall and managing everything. I am hoping that this event is a grand success,” Nandu said.
Tickets for International Culture Night can be purchased here. Tickets are $2 before the event and $3 at the door.
