Robert Jones screams to Kayden Fish after beating Washington State in the second-round game in the NCAA Tournament, March 23, 2024, at CHI Health Center Arena in Omaha.

Iowa State earned its third commitment out of the transfer portal in 6-foot-10 forward Brandton Chatfield from Seattle on Sunday.

With the Cyclones looking to fill big shoes in the frontcourt, Chatfield adds much-needed size. The Cyclones are losing three big men in Hason Ward, Robert Jones and Tre King.

Throughout the start of the portal season, Iowa State has hit the ground running looking for big men. The first addition of the offseason was 6-foot-11 Charlotte transfer Dishon Jackson. Now the most recent addition is another sizable player.

Chatfield started his collegiate career at Washington State before transferring to Seattle. Jackson followed a similar path, as he played two seasons at Washington State before moving on to Charlotte. The two were teammates in their first season at Washington State.

Both players were also teammates of former Cyclone Aljaž Kunc in his last season with Washington State.

Chatfield has been improving consistently year after year, as his most recent season saw him average 9.4 points, 5.4 rebounds and nearly one block per game. Along with his strong presence in the paint, he is an efficient shooter, knocking down 60% of his shots throughout his career.

As the Cyclones near the end of available scholarships, they will continue to look for players to fill gaps in their roster for next season. Chatfield will have one year of eligibility left when he gets to Iowa State.
