Week 4 of the NFL season was not as explosive as past weeks for former Iowa State players. Brock Purdy and David Montgomery grabbed wins in their games, and TJ Tampa made the stat sheet for the first time ever.
Here is how former Cyclones performed in the NFL this past week:
Brock Purdy
Purdy and the San Francisco 49ers defeated the New England Patriots 30-13 Sunday. Though the 49ers won, Purdy did not have his best game.
The fourth-year quarterback completed 15 of his 27 pass attempts for 288 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Purdy also ran the ball five times for 11 yards.
Purdy connected with tight end George Kittle for his lone touchdown pass of the game. The 49ers are now 2-2 on the season.
David Montgomery
Once again, Montgomery played an integral part in the Detroit Lions’ 42-29 win over the Seattle Seahawks. This was the first time the Lions have beaten the Seahawks since 2012.
Montgomery trailed running back Jahmyr Gibbs in rushing but still managed to get 40 yards on 12 carries and a touchdown. Through the air, Montgomery caught one pass for 40 yards, which led to a Detroit touchdown.
After four games, Montgomery has scored four touchdowns and racked up 271 yards on 63 carries.
Breece Hall
Hall was limited in the New York Jets’ 10-9 loss to the Denver Broncos. His 10 rush attempts only amounted to four yards, with his longest carry going for three yards.
This was the lowest amount of rushing yards Hall has ever had in an NFL game.
In the passing game, quarterback Aaron Rodgers targeted Hall five times, but Hall only caught two of those passes for 14 yards.
The rainy conditions may not have helped, but regardless, Hall will likely want to put this game in the rearview mirror.
Allen Lazard
Rodgers spread the ball around to his Jets receivers, but Lazard was one of his favorite targets yet again.
Lazard caught five of his eight targets for 58 yards, with his longest reception going for 25. Four other New York players were targeted five or more times.
Throughout the first quarter of the season, Lazard has maintained a steady number of receptions and yards.
T.J. Tampa
It may have taken a few weeks, but Tampa recorded his first career NFL tackle Sunday. Tampa recorded one tackle in the Baltimore Ravens’ 35-10 win over the Buffalo Bills.
Tampa was taken 130th overall by the Ravens in the 2024 NFL Draft. Though it has been a slow start for the rookie corner, Tampa has finally gotten on the stat sheet in the NFL.
