Iowa State alum Shane Jacobson, a lead investor for cancer research, will speak at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Memorial Union.
Jacobson is the CEO of the V Foundation for Cancer Research, a company dedicated to its core mission of “Victory Over Cancer.” The company is headquartered in North Carolina and was founded by legendary basketball coach Jim Valvano.
Jacobson will share his insights on the work of the V Foundation and how the company’s approach to investing in research advances the field of cancer research, according to the lecture preview. He will also share his career journey, leadership principles and lessons learned as a former Cyclone and an accomplished nonprofit executive.
According to the lecture preview, Jacobson is a senior executive with experience leading teams to achieve record-setting revenue.
“At the V Foundation, Shane and the staff focus on funding all-star scientists to accelerate victory over cancer and save lives,” according to the lecture preview. “They masterfully link networks inside and outside of sports. Shane has been part of revenue targets aimed at investing more than $3 billion in mission-critical opportunities. He has a positive history of CEO-Board relationships and utilizes his expertise in board best practices, including as an author.”
According to the Foundation’s website, Jacobson received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Iowa State.
“Prior to joining the organization, Jacobson served as the President & CEO of the University of Vermont Foundation. His team set an all-time high in fundraising through a highly successful $581 million campaign. Included in this total is nearly $300 million in support of academic medicine and patient care, as well as $43 million for athletics,” according to the Foundation’s website.
