David Montgomery
Montgomery showed off his workhorse abilities and saw plenty of action in the Detroit Lions’ 21-14 win Sunday over the Green Bay Packers. The win keeps Detroit on top of the NFC with a 7-1 record.
He carried the ball 17 times for 73 yards, with his longest carry going for 14 yards. This was just the second game this season that Montgomery did not score a touchdown.
In the receiving game, Montgomery caught all three of his targets for 23 yards. When it comes to pass catching, Montgomery has been solid and has reeled in 17 of his 18 targets this season.
Montgomery now sits at 488 yards on 110 carries through eight games. This puts him 22nd in the NFL in rushing yards and 14 yards behind fellow Cyclone Breece Hall.
Breece Hall
Hall and the New York Cyclones have been on the losing side of games more often than not. However, the Jets took down a tough Houston Texans squad 21-13 on Halloween.
The Thursday night win now makes New York 3-6. The uphill battle is still there, but taking down a team like Houston is promising.
In the game, Hall ran 15 times for 74 yards. His furthest run went for 16 yards.
Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers targeted Hall four times out of the backfield, and Hall caught two of those passes for 11 yards. One went for 13 while the other was a loss of two.
Hall is still in the top 20 in the NFL when it comes to rushing yards at 502, despite a few lackluster performances in prior games. The Jets’ win and Hall’s workload were both steps in the right direction.
Will McDonald IV
Like Hall, McDonald and the Jets were victorious. However, McDonald was not as productive as he had been in the past.
McDonald recorded just one assisted tackle but did recover a fumble in the first quarter. The turnover did not amount to anything, as the Jets punted on the ensuing offensive possession.
In terms of the NFL sack leaderboard, McDonald had held second place for a couple of weeks entering the game against Houston. He has fallen to third at eight total sacks, still behind New York Giants defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence II who has nine, but now there is a new overall leader.
Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Trey Hendrickson rocketed into the lead after a big day against the Las Vegas Raiders, where he recorded four sacks.
McDonald is not out of it yet, but if he wants to be the NFL’s sack leader, he has to pick up the pace.
Eyioma Uwazurike
Uwazurike has played a limited amount in the 2024-25 NFL season. Currently, he has recorded stats in two games, including his most recent.
Uwazurike recorded three total tackles in the Denver Broncos’ 41–10 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Fellow Cyclones on the Ravens, T.J. Tampa and Charlie Kolar, were active but did not record any stats.
In the 2022 season, Uwazurike played in eight games and had 17 total tackles. Through two games played in 2024, he has seven tackles.
The loss drops the Broncos to 5-4 overall, with a divisional matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs set for Sunday.
