No. 7 Nebraska sweeps Iowa State in Lincoln

In the second game against a ranked opponent this week, Iowa State fell in straight sets to No. 7 Nebraska.

On Friday, Iowa State fell to No. 14 Creighton three sets to one. During this week, Iowa State went 1-2 with its only win against unranked Wichita State which it won 3-1.

Iowa State dropped the first set 25-22 to give Nebraska a 1-0 lead in the match.

Senior outside hitter Jess Schaben had three kills, two digs and a block in the first set.

Nebraska then jumped to a 2-0 lead after taking the second set 25-18.

Through two sets, senior middle blocker Grace Lazard recorded three kills, two aces, two digs and one block.

In the third set, Nebraska closed out the match with a score of 25-16.

During the game, Iowa State had a total of 30 errors. There were 17 attack errors, 10 service errors and three ball handling errors.

Nebraska on the other hand had 13 attack errors, eight service errors and zero ball handling errors for a total of 21 errors.

On the attack, Iowa State was able to record 31 kills total kills. None of Iowa State’s players had more than Schaben’s nine kills which was the best mark for the Cyclones.

Schaben had a .167 hitting percentage which was higher than the team average a .137 hitting percentage.

The Huskers had 39 team kills and a .257 hitting percentage on the attack.

At setter, Iowa State played Jenna Brandt and Piper Mauck with Brandt getting the start.

On Saturday versus Wichita State, Brandt recorded 46 assists as the lone setter playing for the Cyclones. Against Nebraska, Brandt had only 18 assists while Mauck recorded seven.

On defense, Iowa State had two team blocks to Nebraska’s one.

In addition, Iowa State’s libero, Hali Hillegas, had 12 digs after recording 30 against Wichita State. Hillegas was the only Iowa State player with double-digit digs.

This coming week, Iowa State will have a break from ranked opponents as they will be hosting Wyoming, Syracuse and Iowa in the Cyclone Classic. The Cyclone Classic is a four-team round-robin tournament hosted by Iowa State.
