Walmart was evacuated Wednesday evening after an injured man “made threats to law enforcement.”
According to a press release, an employee at the Walmart at 3015 Grand Ave. contacted the Ames Police Department at 7:10 p.m. Wednesday in regard to a man outside the store suffering from a self-inflicted neck wound.
The police will not release the individual’s identity.
“I do not have any information on whether or not he was under the influence of anything,” Ames Police Sergeant Amber Christian said.
Following threatening remarks from the man, the Ames Police Department evacuated the Walmart. The store reopened after police determined there was no threat.
The individual first received care at Mary Greeley Medical Center before transferring to a hospital in Des Moines. His condition remains unknown.
Ames Police will continue to investigate the incident, but the press release states there is “no threat to the community.”
