Warning: Spoilers Ahead!
The latest episode of “Jujutsu Kaisen” was the best of both worlds. Not only do you get a really cool fight with Yuji and the helicopter hair pair, but you also get a bit of the humor that made this show stand out back in season one. I felt like the humor in this episode really worked. It was a nice break from how dour and dark this anime has become, and seeing Yuji and Megumi mess around for a bit was a significant change of pace. I especially thought that Hakari at the beginning of this episode was really funny and showed a new side we hadn’t seen before.
With the plan intact, both Yuji and Megumi enter the culling games; however, they are both separated. While trying to track down Higuruma, they both encounter strangers, and whether they can trust them is where the episode leaves us
The cliffhanger this week is brutal, and the fact that it is a break week after this makes it that much worse. The next episode will reveal Higuruma as the fight between him and Yuji begins. With each passing week, Jujutsu Kaisen raises the stakes and makes it must-watch TV. I am sitting and waiting for it to start on Thursdays.
The direction of this episode was incredible as always, and the way that they animate such a small fight in the manga with such attention and care in this episode is almost mind-boggling. The team that MAPPA has assembled for this show can not be understated. They are some of the best animators working today, and it shows time and time again.
Even if this episode was more set up for the next part of the Tokyo Colony, the next episode seems to deliver, with the fight between Yuji and Higuruma in it. The break will feel like an eternity waiting for it, however.
