State Gym is the host of practice and games for some of the most talented women’s basketball players on the campus of Iowa State and they are a team to watch in the league of the National Club Basketball Association (NCBBA).
The Iowa State Women’s Basketball Club is a great place to show skill, talent, work hard and have fun while playing at a competitive level that brings more of a spice than just a regular hoop session or intramural game.
“This season has been competitive and overall pretty successful,” club president Megan Corkery said. “We’ve faced tough opponents and had some great wins.”
Currently, the club has an overall record of five wins and three losses and is ranked third in the Mid America West Conference. Iowa State has picked up wins against Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, Nebraska and Iowa.
Iowa State is also scheduled to travel to Omaha, Nebraska, to play Creighton. After this short series of just two games, Iowa State’s regular season will be over.

“We’re having a successful season so far, led by seven returning players whose experience has helped set the tone for the team,” Mason said. “In addition, four new strong additions have stepped in and made an immediate impact, adding depth and energy to our lineup.”
Along with the talent on the floor, the strong diversity from various grade levels allows for the experience of the upperclassmen to be able to bond well with a good number of underclassmen.
This can be important as well in a basketball context since upperclassmen are directed to be good leaders and keep the tradition of a good social atmosphere, as well as lead practices and improve team and individual play.
“We are a group of girls who share a love for the game and enjoy competing together,” Corkery said.
A strong passion for teammates is a prerequisite that comes in handy when it’s time to win the big games in all areas of the season. Teams can crumble from a lack of chemistry, or they can stand tall through strong chemistry on and off the court.
Iowa State hopes to string together a couple of wins to hope to make an appearance at the national tournament that occurs in Madison, Wisconsin, which will take place in April.
Iowa State will have to go 2-0 against Creighton to tie or surpass Missouri for the second seed in the conference in hopes of making the regional tournament. If they are able to succeed in the regional tournament along with Iowa, they could get a berth to the national tournament in April.
