On June 11, Wooly’s in Des Moines hosted the band Dexter and The Moonrocks on their “Donkey Flats” tour. High June and Fox N’ Vead were the openers for the Des Moines Concert.
Dexter and The Moonrocks are a rock band from Texas. They call their music “Western Space Grunge.” They formed in 2021 and took off with their viral hit, “Couch.” They are back at it again with their most recent viral song, “Freakin’ Out.” You have probably heard it as a background sound on social media.
The band consists of James Tuffs (lead vocals and rhythm guitar), Ryan Anderson (lead guitarist and vocals), Ty Anderson (bass) and Fox (drums and vocals).
Dexter and The Moonrocks played several of their popular songs, all of my favorites, actually. Since it was the “Donkey Flats” tour, they played all the songs from that album, along with some of their older songs, such as “Space Invader,” which is my personal all-time favorite song. Dexter and The Moonrocks also played some of their new unreleased songs.
They rocked the stage at Wooly’s after their openers High June and Fox N’ Vead.
High June is another alternative rock band with a slight country feel, with the lead singer Jack Flowers’ rich voice. They also formed in 2021 in eastern North Carolina. Their band really took off with “After Hours,” one of my favorites, along with “Coming Home Soon.” High June ended their set on a high note, with their bassist, Ryon Gerringer, crowd-surfing.
Fox N’ Vead is another alternative rock band with a heavy country feel that came all the way from North Carolina to play. Their songs have a huge Southern feel. Their career took off in 2023 with the release of their album “Coulda Been Something.” Their band consists of Christian Vead and Logan Fox, the frontmen, along with Landon Almond on bass and Ashton Redd on drums. Fox N’ Vead started their set with a bang when they walked in carrying a skeleton wearing a vest and a sign saying “open the pit.” Their music was fast and wild, which started the first mosh pit of the night. Fans loved their music and were going wild in the pit.
Dexter and The Moonrocks ended their show with their hit song “Freakin’ Out,” and then, sadly, the night ended.
