Netflix announced June 15 that all seven seasons of the beloved drama will leave the service in the United States on June 30. The streaming service shared the news in a farewell post on X, saying, “It’s a show? It’s a lifestyle. It’s a religion,” before thanking fans who revisited Stars Hollow over the past 12 years.
Fans won’t have to wait long to continue watching the series. According to Entertainment Weekly, “Gilmore Girls” will stream on Prime Video starting July 1, 2026. All Prime subscribers will have access to the show’s original seven-season run.
Created by Amy Sherman-Palladino, “Gilmore Girls” originally aired on the WB in 2000 before moving to the CW during its final season. The series followed the close relationship between a single mother and her daughter in the fictional town of Stars Hollow, Connecticut. The mother was played by Lauren Graham and the daughter by Alexis Bledel.
Although the series ended its original television run in 2007, it experienced a major resurgence after arriving on Netflix in 2014. The show’s witty dialogue and memorable characters helped connect it with a younger audience. “Gilmore Girls” turned into one of Netflix’s most enduring licensed series.
Its renewed popularity ultimately led Netflix to produce “Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life,” a four-episode revival that premiered in 2016. The revival reunited much of the original cast and brought creator Sherman-Palladino back to finish the story she had long envisioned. While the original series is leaving Netflix, “A Year in the Life” will remain on Netflix.
The announcement sparked disappointment across social media. Many longtime fans expressed that they wished they had more time for one last rewatch before the series departs.
Even after nearly 20 years since its television finale, “Gilmore Girls” continues to have a devoted fan base. In 2025, Graham told The Hollywood Reporter she could envision the cast reunited for a holiday-themed movie. Graham and Sherman-Palladino also revealed they are collaborating on a book celebrating the series.
While Netflix viewers will be saying goodbye to the original series at the end of June, Stars Hollow’s next chapter begins almost immediately when Gilmore Girls arrives on Prime Video on July 1.
