Here are some of the big events happening in Ames and a little bit about them:
From 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. July 3, the Ames History Museum will host a bash celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States, with many fun activities. There will be food trucks, a vintage car show, local bands and more. This event is free and open to the public.
Also on July 3, Jack Trice Stadium will be shooting off fireworks to celebrate our nation’s birthday as well. The fireworks will start at 10 p.m., and this event is open to the public.
From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 4, Ames will be hosting a parade to celebrate the holiday! This parade will be in downtown Ames. People can line up to watch on Main Street and other streets that will be blocked off for this event.
The 55th annual Midnight Madness marathon will take place from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. July 10. Early registrants can get free swag, and information about the track is still being released.
The Main Street Farmers’ Market will return this month, appearing from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. every Saturday. Each week, there will be special events and music by different people.
Bring out your inner thrifter as eight participating stores will be in the 4th annual Thrift and Consignment Crawl. This event takes place on Saturday, July 11, and all stores will open at 9 a.m. that morning and will close between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m.
One of the largest festivals in Iowa returns again this year with the Garden Art Fair at Reiman Gardens. This event runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 12 and will feature over 80 vendors selling their art. This event is free to all ISU students and Reiman Garden Members.
Jack Trice Stadium has its next big concert on July 17, featuring multiple-time award winners Post Malone and Jelly Roll. Carter Faith also joins them as a supporting musician. The concert starts at 7 p.m., and tickets are still available.
- Kayaking and Standup Paddleboard Adventures
McFarland Park will host two fun events on July 17: Kayaking and Stand-Up Paddleboarding adventures. The first event is the Kayaking Adventure, which starts at 5 p.m. and runs until 6:30 p.m., with an ice cream snack afterward. The Standup Paddleboard Adventure starts following the Kayaking Adventure at 7 p.m. and runs until 8:30 p.m.
From 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. July 22, Reiman Gardens will be hosting an educational walkthrough tour of the gardens. Along with the tour, mocktails will be served and you will learn how to garnish drinks.
