Iowa State tennis gets beat by No. 25 Baylor

Sophomore Erin Freeman played for Iowa State Tennis on April 23. Freeman went 2-6 against Vladica Babic of OSU. Cyclones fell 0-4 against Oklahoma.

The Iowa State Cyclones were defeated by the No. 25 Baylor Bears 6-1 this afternoon in Waco, Texas. 

The Cyclones could not get anything rolling this afternoon in singles play. Not one Cyclone won an individual match. No. 1 Maty Cancini fought hard in the first set against Theresa Van Zyl (BU) losing a close set 4-6, but could not maintain momentum in the final two sets losing 6-1, 6-2.

No. 2 Regina Espindola was dominated against Camilla Abbate (BU) losing 6-2, 6-2. No. 3 Ekaterina Repina played a tight match against Jessica Hinojosa (BU) two of the three matches went into tie break but Repina ultimately was defeated 7-5, 4-6, 10-6.

No. 4 Margarita Timakova kept the first match close against Kristina Sorokolet (BU), 6-4 but could not come back losing 6-0. No. 5 Annabella Bonadonna played a tie break in the first set against Dominika Sujova (BU), losing 7-5 and then losing 6-1 in the second set.

No. 6 Karen Alvarez had a rough day against Georgia Testa (BU), losing 6-2 in the first set and then dominated in the second losing 6-0.

The Cyclones started off the match winning the doubles point. Repina and Timakova defeated Hinojosa and Sorokolet 6-3. At the No. 1 doubles position Cancini and Espindola defeated Van Zyl and Testa winning in a tie break 7-5. No. 3 duos Bonadonna and Alvarez could not capture a win against Shakhraichuk and Sujova losing 6-1.

Singles:

No. 1: Maty Cancini was defeated by Theresa Van Zyl (BU), 4-6, 6-1, 6-2.

No. 2: Regina Espindola was defeated by Camilla Abbate (BU), 6-2, 6-2.

No. 3: Ekaterina Repina was defeated by Jessica Hinojosa (BU), 7-5, 4-6, 10-6.

No. 4: Margarita Timakova was defeated by Kristina Sorokolet (BU), 6-4, 6-0.

No. 5: Annabella Bonadonna was defeated by Dominika Sujova (BU), 7-5, 6-1.

No. 6: Karen Alvarez was defeated by Georgia Testa (BU) 6-2, 6-0.

Doubles:

No. 1: Cancini/Espindola defeated Van Zyl/Testa (BU), 7-5.

No. 2: Timakova/Repina defeated Hinojosa/Sorokolet (BU), 6-3.

No. 3: Bonadonna/Alvarez were defeated by Shakhraichuk/Sujova (BU), 6-1.

The Cyclones will come back home and finish out their regular season for next weeks match against the TCU Horned Frogs on April 20 at 10 a.m. in Urbandale, Iowa. Another match will played on Sunday, April 22 at 10 a.m. against Texas Tech.
