While Iowa State’s 13-13 record and last-place standing in the Big 12 may not be what Cyclone fans hoped for at the beginning of the season, there have still been some positive moments throughout the year.

One of those positives — or two positives, rather — has been the play of Iowa State’s freshmen.

Guard Lindell Wigginton and forward Cameron Lard have both made big impacts this season. Wigginton has started all 26 of Iowa State’s games, while Lard emerged midway through the season and has become a steady double-double threat.

Between the two of them, they rank first (Wigginton) and third (Lard) on the team in scoring. Lard leads the team in rebounding and blocks, while Wigginton ranks second in assists.

Wigginton is on his way to several freshman records, and a strong finish to the season would land him a few more. Additionally, Wigginton already owns the freshman record for 20-point games.

Lard already owns the blocks record and is in a great position to get the field goal percentage record as well. He’s in striking distance of finishing in first place for double-doubles, too.

The 13-13 record isn’t what coach Steve Prohm and fans wanted for the program this season, but with two of the best freshmen in school history on the roster right now, Iowa State has the right pieces for the future.
