Tax Bill Passes House and Senate

The House of Representatives voted Wednesday to approve the GOP “Tax Cuts and Jobs Act” for a second time after the Senate parliamentarian found two provisions that would violate Senate rules.

The bill was approved along party lines in the Senate Wednesday with a vote of 51-48.

The bill will be sent to President Trump to be signed into law, despite several polls from NBC News and CNN showing less than a third of those surveyed support the bill.

Rep. Steve King, R-Ia, remarked in a November visit to the Ames Chamber of Commerce that he was surprised how many constituents had called in opposition to lowering taxes on the rich. The wealthiest Americans stand to benefit the most from the tax bill, according to the nonpartisan Joint Committee on Taxation and the Tax Policy Center.

Rep. King voted in favor of the bill Wednesday.
