Update 2:06 p.m. 12/12: The woman shot during a drive-by shooting is Tracy Flores, 36, according to an Ames police press release.

The press release stated there is nothing new to report as far as the investigation. Flores was treated and has been released from a Des Moines hospital.

Update 8:47 a.m. 12/12: The victim of the Stanton Avenue drive-by shooting is a 36-year-old female who suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound in the leg, according to an Ames Police press release.

Police responded to a call at 504 Stanton Avenue at around 11:10 p.m.

No one has been apprehended, but based off the information the police have collected, Ames Police Commander Geoff Huff said they determined the shooting to be an isolated incident with no imminent danger to the community.

The investigation is still on-going. Huff said police are focused on finding the dark-colored sedan which witnesses saw driving northbound after shots were fired.

This shooting is the third in Ames this year including the Campustown shooting in February and the West Ames homicide which took placed a few weeks ago.

Huff said this increase in crime is troubling, though he can’t say that it is a trend.

“The best way to take care of incidents like these is good witness information so we can solve these crimes, so they don’t go unsolved which really makes people uncomfortable,” Huff said. “Right now we’ve got an unsolved homicide and this case now that is pretty troubling.”

Anyone with more information relating to the incident is encouraged to call the Ames Police at 515-239-5133 or the anonymous tip line, 515-239-5533.
