After signing a six-year, $22.5 million contract on Monday, Iowa State football head coach Matt Campbell received another award from the Big 12 Conference today. The Big 12 Conference Chuck Neinas Coach of the Year.

Campbell, who just turned 38 yesterday, was selected by the league’s coaches after finishing the regular season with a 7-5 overall record and 5-4 Big 12 record.

The Ohio native came to Iowa State before the 2016 season and started his Cyclone career with a 3-9 overall record. In his second season, he improved that win column by four wins.

He also helped Iowa State become bowl eligible for the first time since 2012 and brought the Cyclones into the AP Top 25 poll for the first since 2005.

Campbell and the Iowa State football team had a successful month of October resulting in two wins over top five teams with then-No. 3 Oklahoma and then-No. 4 TCU. The Cyclones are one of two teams this season to have two top five team wins.

Along with earning the Big 12 Coach of the Year award, Campbell is a finalist for the George Munger Award.

Iowa State football has had four coaches win the Conference Coach of the Year Award in program history. Dan McCarney was the last Cyclone head coach to win this award in 2004. Earle Bruce earned two in 1976 and 1977 as well as Johnny Majors in 1971.

Campbell and the Iowa State team find out its bowl game on Sunday during the bowl selection day.
