Iowa State men’s basketball changes location for Puerto Rico Tip-Off

Last week Hurricane Maria made a large impact to the island of Puerto Rico. The Iowa State men’s basketball team was planning to head down to the island the weekend of November 16-19 for a tournament.

That is no longer happening. The tournament will continue, but the location has been moved to Coastal Carolina University in Conway, South Carolina.

All teams are still participating in the tournament, with teams like Appalachian State, Boise State, Illinois State, South Carolina, Tulsa, UTEP, Western Michigan and Iowa State.

“The City of Myrtle Beach is pleased to host the Puerto Rico Tip-Off,” said John Rhodes, mayor of Myrtle Beach, in a press release from Iowa State athletics department. “Being a resort on the Atlantic Coast, we understand what happens to a city that has been hit by a major hurricane, and it is our privilege to be asked to help our neighbors in Puerto Rico during this difficult time.”

Iowa State will take on Appalachian State at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 16, on ESPNU. After that game, the Cyclones will play two more games, one on Nov. 17 and another on Nov. 19.
