Game one: Sparta Waste Services 136, JayTees Apparel 131, 2OT

The Cap City League postseason tipped off with a near upset.

JayTees Apparel, who was winless entering Sunday night, hung around throughout the game. At the end of regulation, the score was knotted up at 121 apiece.

In the first overtime, Nick Weiler-Babb took control for JayTees Apparel. The 6-foot-5 junior scored all six of JayTees Apparel’s points in the first overtime.

JayTees Apparel had an opportunity to ice the victory, but it failed to convert its free throws with less than a minute left.

Sparta Waste Services had life.

Down three, Sparta Waste Services’ Marial Shayok rushed to ball down court and dumped it off to Malachi Canada. Canada drained a 3-pointer at the buzzer, tying the game.

In the second overtime, JayTees Apparel dug itself a hole. Sloppy play handed the lead back over to Sparta Waste Services, allowing them to win and advance.

Nick Weiler-Babb led the way for JayTees Apparel. He flirted with a quadruple-double. Weiler-Babb finished with 36 points, 17 rebounds, eight assists, and seven steals.
