Game 1: Sparta Waste Services 132, Hannah Homes 110

The Sunday night opener was a lopsided affair. Sparta Waste Services built a solid lead in the first half.

Sparta Waste Services’ top scorer, Marial Shayok, stuffed the stat sheet once again. Shayok accumulated 34 points, nine rebounds and five assists in 20 minutes on the court.

The Virginia transfer has exceeded expectations offensively. Shayok has averaged 45 points per game in his first four starts in the Cap City League.

Hannah Homes was led by Michael Jacobson’s 24 points and 10 rebounds. Jacobson has quietly turned himself into a consistent Cap City League player, averaging a double-double.

Game 2: Hinterland 112, JayTees Apparel 108

Hinterland started the game off with suffocating defense complimented by smooth offense. Hinterland held a 26-5 lead early on.

Hinterland maintained the large gap on the scoreboard throughout the rest of the first-half. After some half-time adjustments, it was JayTees Apparel’s turn to get hot.

JayTees Apparel’s Nick Weiler-Babb and company chipped away at the deficit, cutting it down to 10 with 4:15 to play.

With 3.6 seconds left in the game, JayTees Apparel nailed a three to pull within three points. Hinterland’s Donovan Jackson responded, sinking a free throw to seal the victory.

Weiler-Babb had 30 points and nine rebounds for JayTees Apparel. Jackson contributed 37 points and 10 rebounds in the win.

Game 3: Doerrfeld Promotions 122, Des Moines Lions Club 110

All four Iowa State players were absent in the last game, but the game did have a Cyclone connection.

Doerrfeld Promotions was left shorthanded with multiple players missing. The Doerrfeld coach, Jason Swanson, scanned the bleachers, seeing if he could pluck someone out of the crowd.

Swanson extended an invitation to Jared Stansbury. Stansbury, a staff writer for CycloneFanatic.com, accepted the offer.

Stansbury switched out of his cargo shorts and threw on Solomon Young’s baggy jersey. The lanky reporter held his ground against the high school and collegiate athletes.

Stansbury finished his debut with four points, five rebounds and some solid defense.
