The Ames Municipal Band will be having their second concert of the season on Thursday in Bandshell Park. Thursday night is also Ames City Council night, and council members will provide cookies and water to concertgoers during the night.

Pre-show entertainment will include the Boone Big Band at 6:30 P.M., and the Municipal Band will play at 8 P.M. Directed by Michael Golemo, the evening program features a variety of literature, from patriotic songs to classical pieces to highlights from the Disney film Frozen. Renowned bass-baritone Simon Estes, who sang at Iowa State’s 2017 commencement, will also be singing on the concert.

Next week’s concert will feature “Shy of a Dozen,” a men’s vocal group from Iowa State, as the pre-show entertainment. There will also be a Flag Day ceremony held before the concert presented by the Ames Elks and Boy Scout Troop 196.

The evening’s featured vocalist will be Iowa State music major Maddie Olsem. “Michael Golemo approached me and asked if I wanted to be a featured singer in their series this summer,” said Olsem on how she got involved with the Municipal Band.
