Solomon Young and Terrence Lewis wreak havoc, Lard debuts

Game 1: Doerrfield Promotions 111, Sparta Waste Services 107 (two overtimes)

The first game of the night featured four Iowa State players. The newer and younger players featured in this matchup, consisting of Terrence Lewis, Solomon Young, Marial Shayok, and Cameron Lard.

Lewis and Young had strong performances in their first game playing alongside each other last week. Their momentum carried onto this week.

For the second week in a row, the combination of Lewis and Young thrived. The duo scored or assisted on Doerrfield’s first 18 points.

Lewis displayed his skill from behind the arc, draining three three-pointers in the first few minutes. Young also showed diversity in his game, going 4-4 on three pointers.

Sparta Waste Services was led by the Cyclone duo of Shayok and Lard. Lard, making his first Cap City League appearance, scored 20 and grabbed 8 rebounds.

Shayok bested his previous record for points in Cap City, 52 points, by scoring 56. The transfer also made a clutch game tying three to send the game to the first overtime.

Game 2: Hinterland 83, Des Moines Outreach Lions Club 81

The lone Cyclone in the second game was Hinterland’s Donovan Jackson. Jackson was assisted in the win by Matt Tiby.

Tiby, who plays professionally in Hungary, eased some of the pressure off Jackson, recording 16 points and 16 rebounds.

Meanwhile, Jackson scored 24 points, nailing five three-pointers. The sharpshooter also sprinkled in a couple of masterful passes throughout the game.

Game 3: Hannah Homes 111, JayTees Apparel 93

Hannah Homes dominated throughout a majority of the night’s final game. Drake standout Ore Arogundade scored a game-high 33 points.

Almost every shot Arogundade missed, Iowa State’s Michael Jacobson rebounded. Jacobson had 12 offensive boards and 20 total. The tandem combined to score 45 points for Hannah Homes.

Nick Weiler-Babb missed the game, leaving Jack Hutchison as the only Cyclone for JayTees Apparel. Hutchison scored four points and picked up one rebound in the loss.
