A typo accidentally tweeted out by President Trump.

Covfefe. Pronounced kov-fee-fee. Or is it koh-fay-fay? koh-feh-fee? Kohv-fehf…

Either way, this blunder exploded in popularity in a matter of hours.

Haven’t heard of covfefe?

On Tuesday, President Trump tweeted out a typo, which remained active for several hours.

Internet users spared no time in criticizing and cracking jokes about the typo. Many believe it is simply the word “coverage” misspelled and tweeted accidentally. This caused many users to wonder if anyone looked at Donald Trump’s tweets to ensure accuracy, or in this case, to make sure there were no typos.

Others had great fun with the tweet. Posting updates as it stayed up, trying to come up with fun meanings of the word and even posting memes in reply to the tweet. There were even a few locals, organizations and politicians who got involved.

Local business in Ames even poked fun at the typo. Morning Bell Coffee and Vinyl Cafe in Ames posted about it on their Instagram pages.

A tiny tiny #covfefe for tiny tiny hands.

President Trump later tweeted out a follow up, poking fun at his own typo.

Some believe that covfefe is a metaphor for something more sinister. It could be a stab at the media as a whole, with the typo representing poor coverage. Others believe the typo was sent intentionally to act as a distraction for more significant events, such as relations with Russia or the Paris Climate Accord. See a video from the Washington Post addressing this issue.

So what is covfefe? Is it the next meme? Or is it simply a typo never meant to be? Is it a distraction? Or is it a new kind of coffee? The world may never know.
