Bikers to race in Ames this weekend for Grand Prix

Cyclists from all over central Iowa will flock to Ames this weekend for the Ames Grand Prix. 

The races will take place on two different tracks. The Ames Main Street Criterium on June 10, and the Iowa State University Research Park Circuit on June 11. 

The Main Street Criterium is a track just .7 miles in length, which loops from Main Street to sixth street, and Douglas Ave to Clark Ave. The schedule is as follows.

Juniors (9-14/15-18) @ 3 p.m.

Men (Cat 5) @ 3:30 p.m.

Men (Cat 4) @ 4:10 p.m.

Men Masters (40+/50+/60+) @ 4:55 p.m.

Kids Races (Kids) @ 5:45 p.m.

Women (Cat Pro 1/2/3 & Cat 4/5) @ 6:05 p.m.

Men (Cat 3) @ 6:50 p.m.

Men (Cat Pro 1/2) @ 7:45 p.m.

Winners of the women’s race have the chance to win a 1/3 karat diamond from Gilger Designs.

The Research Park Circuit contrasts the Criterium in that it is 2.3 miles in length. There are two loops, one on Loop Drive, and another smaller loop just off of 500th Ave.

Men (Cat 4) @ 10:30 a.m.

Men Masters (40+/50+/60+) @ 11:45 a.m.

Women (Cat Pro 1/2/3 & Cat 4/5) @ 1:00 p.m.

Men (Cat Pro 1/2) @ 3:30 p.m.
