Game 1: Sparta Waste Services 115, Des Moines Outreach Lions Club 103

The Thursday night opener featured a lot of points, along with a lot of technical fouls.

Midway through the first half, Marial Shayok’s layup attempt was swatted by DMACC standout Wali Parks.

Shayok and Parks exchanged words, and Parks ended up with a technical foul. The two would butt heads again.

A couple minutes passed, which allowed Shayok and Parks to cool down off the court. They entered the game and were matched up against each other.

Shayok stole the ball from Parks and drove into the lane, then drew a foul. The two shared words, and both received technicals.

Shayok and Parks both pleaded their case to the referees, but the referees stuck with their call. Parks was ejected from the game after his second technical foul.

The Parks ejection ended Des Moines Outreach Lions Club’s momentum and left his smaller-sized team to guard Shayok.

Later on in the game, Cameron Lard received a technical foul for hanging on the rim.

Shayok and Lard led Sparta Waste Services to the win. Shayok scored 36, while Lard had 16 points and 10 rebounds.

The duo also had an electrifying connection on a fast-break opportunity. Lard lobbed a pass behind his back for Shayok to dunk.

Game 2: Doerrfeld Promotions 116, JayTees Apparel 76

The second game was more stingy with technical fouls. After the four in the first game, this game only had one.

Drake post player, Casey Schlatter, wasn’t pleased with an official and shared his displeasure, resulting in the lone technical foul.
