Ben Rector to play the Great Hall for SUB’s kickoff concert

“Brand New” singer Ben Rector is set to perform in the Memorial Union’s Great Hall on Wednesday, August 23rd. Doors for the event open at 7:00 P.M. for an 8:00 P.M. show, and tickets are already on sale through midwestix.com and through the Maintenance Shop box office starting on August 21st. Tickets cost $28 for the public and $18 for Iowa State students. 

Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Rector started playing piano, guitar and singing at a young age, and started writing songs as a teenager. He released his first EP during his freshman year at the University of Arkansas, and was the youngest person to win the 2006 John Lennon Songwriting Contest.

When he graduated in 2009, he had two full-length albums out- Twenty Tomorrow and Songs That Duke Wrote. After moving to Nashville, Rector released four more albums, his most recent being Brand New. Rector has also toured with artists like Five for Fighting, Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors and Needtobreathe.
