Cyclones take game one from Texas

Andy Stubblefield

The Iowa State (17-31, 2-11 Big 12) softball team snagged game one of a three-game series at Texas (24-19, 3-7 Big 12).

Emma Hylen earned her second straight start for the Cyclones at pitcher.

The Longhorns go things rolling with one run on three hits in the bottom of the first inning.

Iowa State tied things up in the top of the third inning when Sami Williams brought home Kirsten Caudle with a sac-fly.

The Cyclones took a one lead in the next inning when Kelsey McFarland blasted a homerun to left field.

A 2-1 lead was all Iowa State would need as Hylen and the rest of the Cyclones defense tightened up the remainder of the game, not allowing another run after the first inning.

First pitch for game two is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday in Austin.
