Williams breaks record, Cyclones fall to Texas in game two

Texas (25-19, 4-7 Big 12) downed Iowa State (17-32, 2-12 Big 12) Saturday in Austin, evening the series at 1-1.

The Cyclones threatened early in the first inning after Sami Williams drew a lead-off walk but was left stranded on third base.

Texas struck first with three runs in the bottom of the third inning. The Longhorns would add three more runs in the next inning to take a six-run lead.

In the top of the fifth inning Sami Williams hit double number 17 on the year, capturing the Iowa State single-season doubles record. Her double scored Logan Schaben to cut into the Longhorn lead.

Texas would respond in the bottom of the inning with a run of their own.

Kelsey McFarland stole second and third base in the sixth inning but would fail to score. Iowa State have now tied the single-school record for stolen bases with 89 on the year.

The Cyclones dropped game two, 7-1 to the Longhorns.

The rubber match is set for 11 a.m. Sunday in Austin. The Cyclones will be playing for their first Big 12 series win since April 7, 2013.
