Iowa State drops home opener to Texas Tech

Iowa State (15-17, 0-1 Big 12) dropped its home opener to Texas Tech (14-14, 1-0 Big 12) 18-4 on Friday evening at the Cyclone Sport Complex after the Red Raider bats got off to a hot start.

Iowa State started Brianna Weilbacher on the mound, eventually changing to Savannah Sanders, then Emma Hylen before end of the first inning. Texas Tech pounced on the Cyclone pitchers in the first inning, scoring 13 runs to begin the game.

The Red Raiders added two more runs in the top of the second inning with a two-run home run.

Iowa State finally got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second inning with a Kelsey Bosworth single to bring home Talyn Lewis.

Texas Tech added two more runs to its lead in the top of the third.

Kelsey McFarland, Cathlin Bingham and Tayln Lewis all scored for the Cyclones in the bottom half of the inning to cut into the Red Raider lead.

Texas Tech added one more run to its lead in the top of the fifth inning to go ahead by 14.

The game ended after the fifth inning after Texas Tech winning by a mercy rule.
