Iowa State drops first two games at Oklahoma

The Iowa State (15-21, 0-5 Big 12) softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to No. 12 Oklahoma (30-7, 2-0 Big 12) Friday.

Savannah Sanders got the start at pitcher for the Cyclones in game one, her 14th of the season.

Oklahoma got to work right away putting two runs on the board in the first inning.

Kaila Konz hit an RBI single to score Niki Turner from second base to put the Cyclones on the board in the top of the second.

Oklahoma padded its lead with two more runs in the bottom of the second inning and a 2-run home run in the third. The Sooners tacked on one more run in the fourth inning to take a six-run lead.

Iowa State held Oklahoma scoreless the rest of the game, but could not cut into the lead falling 7-1 in game one.

In game two, Oklahoma struck early and often. The Sooners scored six runs in the first inning followed by a ten-run inning in the second. The Cyclones allowed four more runs in the fourth inning to lose by run rule, 20-0.

Iowa State committed six errors in the loss.

The Cyclones return to action in game three of the series Saturday at 11 a.m.
