The Iowa State (7-6) softball team dropped its third straight game, falling to UAB (3-8) Saturday evening. The Cyclones continued their struggles on defense, allowing seven runs to the Blazers.

Savannah Sanders started the game at pitcher for the Cyclones.

UAB opened up the scoring with a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning. Iowa State wasted no time answering with a solo shot from Rachel Hartman in the top of the second. UAB hit a two-out, two-run home run to regain the lead in the bottom half of the inning.

The Blazers never looked back.

Brianna Weilbacher entered the game in the bottom of the third inning to relieve Sanders at pitcher. The Blazers would add a run before Weilbacher would get the Cyclones out of the inning.

UAB would extend their lead to 7-1 in the bottom half of the fifth inning, causing Sanders to re-enter the game for the Cyclones at pitcher.

Sanders held the Blazers scoreless for the remainder of the game, but the Cyclones were unable to find an answer offensively.

Iowa State threatened in the seventh inning with baserunners on first and second with no outs. The Blazers would end the threat after a pitching change to win 7-1.
