Alexander Acosta is the new nominee for secretary of labor in the Trump administration. 

Here are some quick facts about him:

  • He served as the dean of the Florida International University Law School.
  • He graduated from Harvard Law School.
  • He is the former attorney general for the Justice Department’s civil rights division.
  • He served as a U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Florida.
  • He was the first person of hispanic descent to hold an assistant attorney general position. 
 
Acosta was nominated after previous nominee Andrew Puzder withdrew his nomination due to his inability to get enough Republican support to confirm his nomination.
