In a thrilling overtime match, Cyclone Hockey defeated the Robert Morris Eagles 3-2 in the semifinal game of the Central States Collegiate Hockey League (CSCHL) tournament Saturday night in Bensenville, Illinois.

Junior goaltender Derek Moser (17-8-1) got the start for the Cyclones after an impressive 63 saves on 65 shots the weekend prior.

In the opening period, both teams battled hard but neither team could find the back of the net and the game remained scoreless after 20 minutes.

The Eagles came out fighting in the second period and Robert Morris’ Nick Gnagni and Gavin Burbach both tallied two goals. Although, forward Jake Arroyo answered back with one goal to finish off the second frame trailing 2-1.

In the third period, it was Arroyo with his second goal of the night who tied it up for the Cyclones at 11:57. That would prove to be the lone goal of the period which sent the semi-final game to overtime tied at two goals a piece.

In a sudden death overtime, Adam Alcott tipped in a feed from Eero Helanto for the game winning goal 2:38 into the overtime.

With the victory, Iowa State is now set to take on Lindenwood in the CSCHL championship game on Sunday.

The CSCHL rivals are familiar with each other in postseason play after facing each other in the 2016 American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) National Championship game last March.

This season, both teams finished the season as the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds in the CSCHL, respectively and split the regular season with one sweep a piece.
