No. 10 Cyclone Hockey traveled to Athens, Ohio, to face No. 3 Ohio this weekend in hopes of coming back to Ames with a Central States Collegiate Hockey League regular season championship.

They did just that.

The Cyclones needed a sweep of the Bobcats to earn the championship, and beat Ohio 3-2 on Friday and 1-0 on Saturday. It was Cyclone Hockey’s first CSCHL regular season championship since 2002

The team had only won one game in Ohio since the 2007 season prior to this weekend.

Derek Moser started in net for the Cyclones on Saturday and pitched the shutout.

Jon Severson got the only goal of the night, scoring in the first period.

The Cyclones will try to win another banner next weekend when they go to Bensenville, Illinois, for the CSCHL Tournament, in a couple of weeks.
