No. 8 Cyclone Hockey couldn’t find it’s way back in the winning column and lost 4-2 to No.8 Jamestown in the final game of the series Saturday night.

Between the pipes for Iowa State was Matt Goedeke with 33 saves on the night and Alex Orth with 25 saves for the Jimmies.

In the first period of action, the fight and energy from both teams was similar to Friday night. Both teams fought hard along the boards and finished checks to make scoring opportunities limited for both sides.

Both benches cleaned up their play from Friday and had just one penalty a piece for most of the first.

That was until a cross-checking penalty against Colton Kramer with 2 seconds remaining put the Cyclones on the penalty kill to start the second.

The Jimmies capitalized on the power-play and a shot initially stopped by Goedeke trickled in to give Jamestown a one goal lead early in the second period.

Iowa State fell into trouble on the penalty kill again which gave the Jimmies the advantage to get another one past Goedeke to make it 2-0.

The Cyclones kept fighting and got a fortunate bounce in their favor. At 13:29, Drew Carlson tapped in a loose puck sitting at the goal crease to cut the Jamestown lead in half.

The final period of play was a back and forth battle between the two top-ten teams. Jamestown extended its lead 8 minutes in to make it 3-1.

Immediately following the Jamestown goal, Iowa State defenseman Eero Helanto answered back to shorten the deficit to 3-2.

Jamestown added another goal when Cyclone Hockey pulled its goalie to gain an advantage on the offensive end.
