Iowa State (15-23, 0-6 Big 12) faced off with Creighton (24-12, 6-1 Big East) in Omaha, NE., on Wednesday afternoon. While it was tight for most of the contest, the Cyclones lost a hard fought 1-0 game.

ISU’s freshman Savannah Sanders and Creighton’s Micaela Whitney duked it out in a true pitching duel, with Whitney and the Blue Jays scoring the single run.

Sanders held the Blue Jays hitless through three innings, allowing only two hits all game, striking out eight CU batters.

Whitney was able to silence the Cyclone bats all game, scattering four hits across her seven innings of work, while also striking out four ISU batters.

The lone run came in the bottom of the 7th inning, when Creighton inserted pinch-runner Katie Pascuzzi who be bunted home by Mileah McKelvy, leading to the walk-off Creighton win.

Despite the loss, it was one of Sanders’s best performances of her young Cyclone career. The Cyclones will play again on Thursday when they take on Omaha.
