Cyclones 4-2 against Longhorns

Sunday afternoon at the Weller Indoor Tennis Center, Iowa State fell 4-2 to Texas.

The Cyclones began the duel in the direction in which has lead to a majority of victories this season. The Cyclones began by winning the doubles point against No. 25 Texas, but were unable to defeat the Longhorns in the long run.

The Cyclones played strong in doubles. Sami Budai and Liza Buss at the top-two spots teamed up to defeat Breaunna Addison and Katie Poluta, 6-3. The Cyclones clinched the point shortly after Alejandra Galvis and Anabella Bonadonna defeated Dani Wagland and Daniella Roldan with a 6-3 victory.

Galvis and Bonadonna has been the most consistent doubles pair this season for the Cyclones. Regina Espindola and Ana Gasparovic were leading against their opponent 5-4, until the match was suspended when the Cyclones clinched the point.

The Longhorns would quickly get back into the match and even up the score. Chelsea Crovetti took a, 6-2, 6-2 victory against sophomore Liera Bender. Then at the No. 3 singles spot, Poluta beat Galvis 6-1, 6-1. Espindola got a big win at No. 4 singles, beating Roldan, 6-0, 7-6 (5), to tie the match at 2-2. It was all Texas after that, the Longhorns got wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles spots and clinched the match.

ISU will be back in action next weekend when Texas Tech comes to Ames on Friday and TCU on Sunday in the final home match of the season.
