The ISU tennis team (12-4, 0-2 Big 12) is preparing to travel to Morgantown, W.V., where it will face its third Big 12 opponent in a row.

The Cyclones will duel against West Virginia (6-6, 0-2 Big 12) at 11 a.m Saturday at the Ridgeview Racquet Club.

Both the Cyclones and Mountaineers were defeated 4-0 by Oklahoma and Oklahoma State in their first two conference matches, and are looking for their first conference win on Saturday.

The Cyclones plan on sticking to their strategy of beginning the match with the doubles point, which helps the team carry momentum going into singles. This strategy has been effective, earning them 12 wins this season, but none of them in conference play.

“This is big for us, we need to play like we have been playing all season,” said coach Armando Espinosa. “There are a lot of good teams in our conference, but this is what we have been preparing for all season.”

Espinosa will look to his seniors to impact the match beginning with doubles play. The pairing of senior Samantha Budi and freshman Liza Buss has been a big part of the Cyclones success this season. Together, they have an impressive season record of 21-5.

Another senior and freshman pairing that has performed well for the Cyclones this season is the pairing of Alejandra Galvis and Annabella Bonadonna. They hold a record of 13-3 this season.

The Cyclones will look to get the doubles points and rely on the players that have been consistent all season in order to get their first conference win of the season.
