The Iowa State tennis team (9-1, 0-0 Big 12) made a trip to Minneapolis this weekend to face off against two opponents, Buffalo and Minnesota, at the Baseline Tennis Center at the University of Minnesota. The Cyclones started the weekend against the Buffalo Bulls (6-3, 0-0 MAC) and earned a 6-1 victory stretching their winning streak to eight.

The strategy has been the same all season for the Cyclones. Start off strong with doubles and let the momentum carry on to singles for a strong finish. And they did just that against the Bulls this Saturday morning.

Alejandra Galvis and Annabella Bonadonna earned the first doubles point against Laura Holterbosch and Christine Haraldson. Galvis and Bonadonna defeated the Bulls number two pairing 6-4. Then followed Regina Espindola and Anna Kuuttila who defeated Margarita Kotok and Chantel Martinez Blanco 7-5 to clinch the doubles point for the Cyclones. Kuuttila also made her returning debut to the Cyclones roster.

For the Cyclones, their game plan was in effect. Liza Buss earned the first singles point for the Cyclones with her 6-2, 6-2 win over Chantel Martinez Blanco. Buss also extended her winning streak to 12 wins. Following her was senior Anna Kuuttila who defeated Margarita Kotok 7-5, 6-1. Then fellow senior Alejandra Galvis would end the day for the Cyclones earning a 6-0, 6-4 win over Mercedes Losada. Galvis extending personal record to 15-4.

The Cyclones will return to the courts tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. against a ranked (8-4, 1-0 Big 10) Minnesota team.
